Area Day Trip Ideas Part 1
While you are staying at the park there are plenty of day trips to venture to in our area. A few favorites are The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY; Ausable Chasm in Keeseville, NY; and Ben and Jerry’s Factory Tour in Waterbury, VT.
- The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY -The Wild Walk is a great experience for children of all ages. There is a full size spider web for families to climb on, a full size bald eagle nest to explore, and a four story twig treehouse awaiting future nature enthusiasts. They also have a 115 acre nature trail that winds through their campus. You can explore on your own or await one of their naturists to guide you through.
- Ausable Chasm in Keeseville, NY – Referred to as “The Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks,” Ausable Chasm is a stunning gorge made of sandstone. Adventurers can try rafting or tubing on the Ausable River. If land sports are more your thing, you can mountain bike through the trails or try the thrilling Adventure Trail, which is perfect for the person who has always wanted to try rock climbing, but never actually learned how. It is encouraged to wear sneakers or hiking shoes and dress accordingly. Specifications can be found on the link above.
- Ben and Jerry’s Factory Tour in Waterbury, VT – Ice Cream Enthusiasts will not be disappointed with a day trip to the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. The tour will take you through the process of how they create their euphoric ice cream flavors, as well as show how much they have changed from their humble beginnings and end with a free sample of one of their newest creations. You can tour the flavor graveyard and find your old favorite flavors that are no longer in production, such as Rainforest Crunch and Tuskeegee Chunk. If you are lucky, you may get to see the procession and ceremony associated with adding another flavor to the flavor graveyard, or the process of resurrecting a flavor for a limited time from the graveyard!
