2022 Travers Day Weekend

While there are plenty of events and features that are staples of life in upstate New York, there is nothing quite like the annual Travers Stakes at the world-famous Saratoga Race Track, just 30 minutes south of the Lake George RV Park. Taking place on the last Saturday of every August, and this year Saturday, August 27th,  thousands of people flock to the Saratoga Springs area to participate in numerous events around town.  When the time comes, the grandstands and ground-level seating fill up quickly, as the Travers is one of the most important and highly regarded horse races of the summer season!

If you are planning on making your way down to the track for that weekend, there are plenty of things to do once inside the venue before the big race begins. Get a glimpse of the ponies as they make their way to the posts on a paved path that is open to the public, or make a stop and see the statue of Sea Hero, the horse who won the Kentucky Derby and the Travers Stakes in 1993. Be sure to bring your fanciest hat as well, and it’s not just to keep the late August sun out of your eyes, there is also an annual hat contest that takes place each year!

he 153rd running of the Travers Stakes takes place on August 27th this year. If you are going to attend, make sure of two things: to go early to avoid the overwhelming lines, and to have a great time!
