Area Activities for Labor Day

As Labor Day Weekend approaches, the excitement of the “last hurrah” looms in the air. Families try to get one last vacation in before summer is officially over. As sad as it is to see the summer end, there are still a few days to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy the Painted Pony Rodeo, this is the time! Their last shows for the 2019 summer season are August 28th, 30th, and 31st. It is always an entertaining show for children and adults alike. They have a western style BBQ buffet before the rodeo that is large enough to satisfy even the largest appetite. The rodeo is general admission, so get there early to make sure you have a great seat! The Longhorn Saloon plays the newest country hits as well as pop favorites. It is a great spot to swing in to after watching the cowboys and cowgirls compete in their events.

If you haven’t seen the fireworks in Lake George yet this year, this week is your chance to do so. There are fireworks on Thursday, August 29th, and Saturday, August 31st. The Lake George Steamboat Company will have fireworks cruises both days. The Thursday cruise will be on the Lac Du Saint Sacrement, and we have the discount tickets in the office. The Saturday cruises are on the Minnie Ha Ha and the Lac Du Saint Sacrement. All three of the cruises will offer live music entertainment.

Every Friday throughout the summer there was a live concert series called, “Fridays at the Lake.” Friday, August 30th will be the last installment of the series. After Funk will be playing with special guests, Capital Zen. This is an outdoor concert that is family and pet friendly. It takes place in Shepard Park. It is the perfect place to bring a blanket or folding camp chairs, pack a picnic and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area.

For the sports enthusiasts, the 14th Annual Lake George Triathlon Festival is on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday September 1st. The Olympic Distance Triathlon starts at Battlefield Park on August 31st at 7:00 AM. The Big George Half Iron Triathlon starts at Battlefield Park on September 1st at 6:45 AM. Both routes are spectator friendly! You can participate in the triathlons, or cheer on the brave men and women who are participating! This is a family friendly event.
