Kayaking in the Area

With the summer months approaching and the temperature starting to climb, the popularity of kayaking is on the rise.  There are a few areas that the locals tend to frequent.  Lake George is really not a great spot to kayak due to the high traffic and the larger boats.  Here is a list of some area bodies of water that are great for a paddle!

Glen Lake- This gem is directly behind our park on Glen Lake Rd.  You can launch your kayak next to the Docksider restaurant, and paddle around the lake.  Locals love to enjoy the outdoor dining at the Docksider after they work up an appetite from paddling around the lake.

Moreau State Park- Located just off Exit 17S of I-87, this state park has specific access points just for kayaks!  Moreau Lake is a large lake, but there is no motorized boat traffic.  This makes for a nice peaceful paddle while enjoying the sun and the sounds of nature.

Lake Luzerne- Just over the mountain from our park there lies a rustic town that has more than one lake to kayak on.  Lake Vanare as well as Sacandaga are great kayak spots.  Pack a lunch and picnic on the beach after a mid-morning paddle!

Spier Falls Boat Launch- Located on the upper part of the Hudson River, there is a quiet alcove off of Spier Falls Rd that is a perfect spot to enjoy nature and get out on the water.  The water is peaceful and it is a good paddle for the novice.  You can paddle out to the islands in the center and have a picnic lunch, just make sure you are off the water before dark.  The boat launch closes at dusk.
