National Ice Cream Month

July is National Ice Cream Month, and what better way to welcome the dog days of summer than with a frozen treat.  Our café on property has a plethora of ice cream options that is sure to make even the pickiest ice cream fan smile!

If you are a hard ice cream fan, some of the favorites are Cotton Candy, Cookie Dough, or Mint Chocolate Chip.  If you are feeling adventurous, Midnight Caramel River is a dark chocolate ice cream base with a caramel swirl throughout, and Cappuccino Crunch is a coffee ice cream base with chocolate pieces.

For the soft ice cream fans there are the standard chocolate and vanilla flavors, but we also offer flavor burst which really jazzes up the soft ice cream experience!  Blue Goo and Orange Cream are two of the most popular flavors.

If you are still looking for a little more flavor diversity, there are sundaes available at the café.  The Candy Lover’s Sundae is one of the café staffs’ favorite sundaes to make AND to enjoy.  It uses soft ice cream as the base and is topped with Kit Kats, Hershey Chocolate Chunks, M&M’s, Hot Fudge, and whipped cream and a cherry.  It looks like a candy explosion!  The S’mores Sundae is another favorite of the café staff.  It uses soft ice cream as the base, marshmallow topping, hot fudge, and graham cracker chunks, topped with whipped cream and a cherry.  If you are feeling nostalgic, the Hot Fudge Sundae is the O.G. sundae that still has a devoted fan base!  Choose your ice cream, and top it with hot fudge and whipped cream and a cherry.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can make your OWN ice cream right at your campsite!  The ingredients are easy to come by and it only takes a few minutes to have your own frozen treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ice
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • Ziploc bags 1 Small, 1 Large

Instructions

Pour 1 cup of half and half into a small ziploc bag.

Add 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of sugar.

Seal the bag firmly and get any excess air out.

In the larger ziploc bag, fill it about 1/2 way with ice. Add 1/4 cup of salt.

Then add your small bag and fill with extra ice on top. Seal the large bag.

Get gloves for shaking and shake for 6 minutes. *Gloves are needed since the salt makes the ice extra cold.

Take the small bag out of the large bag and rinse the outside of the small bag with cold water. Make sure to rinse out the top part of the bag also (above the seal).

Once done rinsing, carefully open the small bag to not get any remaining salt from the outside of the bag inside the bag.

The ice cream will be a little icy looking to start. Use a spoon to mix it around and soften it up a bit. Scoop out and enjoy!

There is no better way to top off your day than with ice cream!  No matter how you choose to celebrate National Ice Cream Month, it is sure to be a delicious experience.
